US Woman Apprehended Again After Attempting to Flee to Canada

Dec 17, 2024 | INTERNATIONAL | 0 |

A 57-year-old US permanent resident, Svetlana Dali, has been taken into custody once more after attempting to escape to Canada. This latest incident occurs merely weeks after her notorious stunt of stowing away on a Delta flight from New York to Paris.

According to authorities, Dali’s most recent attempt to evade law enforcement involved cutting off her ankle monitor and boarding a bus bound for the Canadian border. She was subsequently apprehended in Buffalo, New York, and is scheduled to appear in court to face charges related to her actions.

“This incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding Dali’s potential to escape again,” said a spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office. “Her history of evading authorities has led to heightened scrutiny of her actions, and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that she is held accountable for her actions.”

The incident has also brought attention to vulnerabilities in airport security, particularly during peak travel seasons. Dali’s ability to board a flight without a passport or boarding pass has raised questions about the efficacy of current security protocols.

“We take incidents like this very seriously and are working to identify the vulnerabilities that allowed Dali to board the flight,” said a spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). “We will continue to work closely with airlines and airports to ensure that our security protocols are effective and efficient.”
