Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, George Mireku Duker, has expressed surprise at the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) landslide victory in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Mining City Radio in Tarkwa today, the MP questioned how the NDC managed to win by such a significant margin, despite the intense criticism and taunts they faced. “Who would have believed John Mahama would win with such a huge margin?” he asked.
He acknowledged the overwhelming nature of Mahama’s victory, stating, “What we have seen today, we will see it tomorrow.”
He further placed importance on respecting the decision of the Ghanaian people and providing the necessary support to his successor, Sheikh Issah Salifu.
“I’ll support my successor,” he said. “I didn’t get such support during my tenure, so I’ll give that to him when need be, and when I come back, I can continue from where he stopped.”
He therefore urged the residents to maintain peace in Tarkwa.
“Let’s support them in prayers. Let’s ensure Tarkwa is peaceful.”
The MP expressed confidence in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ability to regroup and make a comeback in 2028.
“NPP will go back to the drawing board and make the necessary comeback.”
