In a recent sentencing, the Juvenile court has handed down a six-month sentence to Elrad Salifu Amoako, son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, at a senior correctional facility. This verdict comes after Elrad pleaded guilty to eight counts, including two counts of manslaughter, resulting from a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of two young girls and injured three others.
The accident occurred when Elrad’s speeding vehicle collided with a car transporting the victims to a party. Following the accident, Elrad was unconscious and was only charged after his discharge from the hospital.
In addition to the six-month sentence, Elrad has been fined GH₵8,000 to cover the costs of the streetlight he destroyed during the accident. His parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, have also been fined GH₵6,000 each for failing to control their son.
The sentencing has brought some closure to the families of the victims, but it also raises questions about juvenile justice and the responsibilities of parents in preventing such tragedies.
